A contemporary self-build residential project constructed with the use of Modern Methods of Construction to create a highly sustainable private residence.
Initially, the existing vinery was demolished and on the former site was constructed a new 3-bedroom detached house and detached double garage with associated landscape and infrastructure.
Our Approach
Adopting modern methods of construction through the use of Insulated Concrete Formwork and SIPP systems to form a super-insulated envelope including a basement. The design uses low carbon, passive design principles supplemented by a sustainable energy provision to create a building that is low energy in use.
ICF was chosen for its’ low carbon impact and high thermal properties, relieving transport logistics and providing the opportunity to create fully glazed south elevation without the requirement for internal shear walls.
Reinforced ICF walls were installed along 3 perimeter walls with the SIPP system providing a diaphragm within the roof structure.
Access to site was difficult, the entrance was tight along a narrow private road which limited access to site for delivery vehicles, an ICF solution provided a lightweight but robust building material that was easily transportable to site.
The project was delivered in BIM with coordinated input from Architect, Engineers and M&E Designers. This allowed work through the technical stages to be planned with cost certainty and knowledge that the scheme could be delivered to the client budget efficiently and without difficulties.
